Domestic Violence

Domestic violence is the emotional, physical, or sexual abuse of a partner (ex-partner) for the purpose of gaining power and control. There is no typical victim. It can happen to anyone, male or female, at any time. Domestic violence crosses all racial, age, sexual orientation, religious, and socioeconomic boundaries.

Domestic Violence is a relationship that has fear, disrespect, jealousy and possessiveness. These relationships typically follow a cycle of violence.

How is Your Relationship?
  • Is your partner extremely jealous?
  • Does your partner tend to isolate you from family and friends?
  • Does your partner use force during an argument?
  • Is your partner verbally abusive?
  • Does your partner look or act in a way that scares you?
  • Is your partner controlling?
  • Does your partner act like the abuse is no big deal, or is your fault?
  • Does your partner threaten harm against you or those you love?
  • Does your partner force you to have sex when you don't want to?
  • Has your partner abused former partners?

If you answered "yes" to even one of these questions, you may be in an abusive relationship. You are not alone; abuse is never acceptable.
